How do I apply to 7th grade at BSGE?

As a 6th grade student applying for 7th grade admissions:

  • Visit MySchools.nyc
    • In order to create a MySchools account, you will need an email address, your child’s Student ID (OSIS) number and a personalized Account Creation Code.
      • For public school families you can get your child’s Account Creation Code from your current school counselor
      • Non-public school students (private and parochial), should contact and visit your local Family Welcome Center for assistance. Be sure to bring a copy of your child’s final 5th grade report card/transcript and two documents verifying proof of address
  • When you log into MySchools, you will be able to review your child’s personal and academic information.
  • If you notice missing or incorrect information you can:
    • Public school students: Contact your child’s current school as soon as possible
    • Non-public school students: Contact your local Family Welcome Center for assistance
  • The deadline to complete this Middle School Application is December 3rd
  • For assistance in completing this process,
  • Selected students will be invited to an on-site assessment at BSGE to be conducted in January or early February.
  • Students selected to join BSGE will receive an acceptance letter in April.

How should I prepare for the 7th Grade Admissions BSGE Test?

We do not expect applicants to engage in any special preparation for the admissions test.

What do I need to bring with me to my 7th Grade BSGE Admissions Test?

Please bring Number 2 pencils and a print out of your test registration confirmation that you received by email. No other materials are necessary or will be collected from you on the day of your admissions test.

What can I do if I do not get a 7th grade admissions interview?

Students who are not granted an interview may reapply for 9th grade admissions to BSGE through the NYCDOE high school application process.

Do I need to have an interview to get into 7th grade at BSGE?

Yes.

What happens at the interview to get into 7th grade at BSGE?

The BSGE admissions interview is a group interview conducted by current BSGE faculty and students in small groups. We do not expect applicants to engage in any special preparation for this interview. Interviews occur in March.

If I am granted an interview, what do I need to bring with me to my 7th grade admissions interview at BSGE?

On the date of your interview, you should bring the following three items: (1) Photocopy of final 5th grade report card, (2) Photocopy of 1st marking period 6th grade report card, (3) 16-17-Recommendation Form (click to download). We can only accept one recommendation for each student. Please use this form found on our website.  Some school officials may choose to mail or fax the Recommendation Form directly to BSGE.

I did not attend public school in 4th or 5th grade. What standardized exams do I submit?

Parochial schools traditionally give the Terra Nova. Private schools give tests such as the Stanford or ERB. Your school will submit these results. If your school does not give any standardized exam at all, the school records that are included in your 5th and 6th grade report cards will be reviewed.

What types of transportation are available to reach the school?

We are accessible by NYC Transit subways and buses.

Can I transfer in to 8th grade at BSGE?

Our admissions test and interview is for the 7th grade admissions process. Please contact your local NYCDOE Family Welcome Center if you have questions regarding transferring middle schools.
