Students Replace Graffiti on Overpass With Mural Showing Neighborhood Map

mural project

QUEENS — A mural featuring a neighborhood map will soon replace graffiti tags covering the walls of an old Long Island Rail Road overpass on the border of Forest Hills and Rego Park.

The mural was designed by a group of high school students attending The Baccalaureate School for Global Education in Astoria, who are currently painting it on Fleet Street, between Thornton Place and Alderton Street.

The school requires its 11th graders to complete a project that would show their creativity and also engage local community, the group said.

PTA Meeting Guest Speaker: Peter Wilson and CAS Night

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at tonight’s CAS night! Peter Wilson will give a brief overview of the Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) program, a requirement of all IB diploma candidates. But more importantly, tonight affords a wonderful opportunity to see the actual projects completed by our seniors and discuss their individual CAS experiences. 10th and 11th grade students and their families are required to attend. We think this is a great program for all our parents.

(We will also be forming our Nominating Committee for our June 6th PTA/SLT election.)

See everyone tonight at 6:30!

Best,
Nancy and Cecilia
